NTAccess can replace the administrator password of a Windows NT, Windows 2000,
Windows XP, Windows Server 2003 or Windows Vista 32-Bit system by rebooting
the computer with a special set of boot disks. This is useful if you forgot
the administrator password and cannot access the Windows NT/2000/XP/Server 2003/Vista system.
The Windows XP, Windows Server 2003 and Windows Vista version of
NTAccess can be loaded directly from the bootable Windows XP, Windows
Server 2003 or Windows Vista Setup CD-ROM.
Its also possible to create a bootable CD-ROM with NTAccess
on it. This way no floppy disk is needed. (Please note that this CD-ROM
does not support Windows Vista but for Windows Vista you don't need a
floppy disk anyway, you can use an USB Memory Stick to load NTAccess.)
Instructions to create the CD-ROM are available on request.

NTAccess looks for the built-in administrator account. This account cannot
be disabled, it can only be renamed. NTAccess always displays the name of
this account so you know how to log in even if it has been renamed.
On Windows XP or Windows Server 2003 the built-in administrator
account can also be disabled, but the Windows XP and Windows Server 2003
version of NTAccess will enable it again.
NTAccess only changes the password of the built-in administrator account, it
does not affect any other accounts or any registry settings and does not
destroy any information on the system.
New since Service Pack 3 for Windows NT 4.0 is
the optional feature to further protect password data in the registry (also
known as System Key Security or SYSKEY Protection). This may require a password
or a floppy disk with an encryption key to start up a Windows NT/2000/XP/Server 2003 system.
NTAccess can turn off this protection for Windows NT so that you can still
access the Windows NT system as administrator. The only drawback is that
the passwords of all other accounts are no longer valid because they are
encrypted with a key that cannot be recovered if the password or the floppy
disk with the encryption key is not available. Of course you can change all
the passwords using User Manager or some other tool after you have logged on
as administrator. Removing the advanced SYSKEY protection
(it requires an additional boot password or a key floppy disk) is currently
not supported for Windows 2000/XP/Server 2003, however NTAccess can still set a new
administrator password for Windows 2000/XP/Server 2003. Windows 2000/XP/Server 2003 systems with
advanced SYSKEY protection are very rare, so you normally don't have to
care about it. Default SYSKEY protection (no additional boot password or
key floppy disk required) is supported for Windows 2000/XP/Server 2003.
For Windows Vista: If the System Disk is encrypted with BitLocker,
NTAccess can not access it without the BitLocker password.
Please note that NTAccess does not affect security of Windows NT/2000/XP/Server 2003/Vista,
because it requires physical access to the machine.

- For Windows NT or Windows 2000
- First you need a set of Windows NT/2000 Setup boot disk. You can create the disks
using your Windows NT/2000 CD-ROM.
- Then you have to copy a few special files to the disks and optionally modify one text file.
- Now you can boot with these disks and replace the password of the administrator account of
any Windows NT/2000 System on the machine.
- For Windows XP and or Windows Server 2003
- The Windows XP or Windows Server 2003 version of NTAccess can be loaded directly
from the bootable Windows XP or Windows Server 2003 Setup CD-ROM. If needed, it can
still be used with boot disks (software to create the boot disks can be downloaded from
Microsoft). So you either need the bootable Windows XP or Windows Server 2003 Setup
CD-ROM or the Windows XP boot disks.
- Then you have to copy a few NTAccess files to an empty disks.
- Now you can boot with the Windows XP or Windows Server 2003 Setup CD-ROM
(or disks), load NTAccess from the disk and replace the password of the
administrator account of any Windows 2000/200/Server 2003 System on the
machine.
- For Windows Vista
- First you need a bootable Windows Vista Setup CD-ROM (any version will do).
- Then you put NTAccess on a floppy disk or an USB Memory Stick.
- Now you boot with the Windows Vista Setup CD-ROM, load NTAccess from
the disk or USB Memory Stick and install the NTAccess Logon Prompt.
- Finally you boot again normally and can change the password from
the NTAccess Logon Prompt.
Bootable CD-ROM:
Its possible to create a bootable CD-ROM containing NTAccess which does
not require any floppy disks. Using this CD-ROM is much faster than
using the floppy disks. Also for systems without a floppy disk drive
(e.g. some Laptops) a CD-ROM might be the only way to use NTAccess.
Instructions to create the CD-ROM are available on request.

- For Windows NT or Windows 2000
It takes about 10 minutes to create the boot disks and another 10 minutes to
boot with them and replace the administrator password. However you only need
to create the boot disks once and can use them as long as the floppy disks
last.
- For Windows XP or Windows Server 2003
If you use the Windows XP or Windows Server 2003 version of NTAccess together
with the bootable Windows XP or Windows Server 2003 Setup CD-ROM, copying the
NTAccess files to an empty disk, booting from the Windows XP Setup or Windows
Server 2003 CD-ROM, loading NTAccess and replacing the administrator password
takes about 3 minutes.
- For Windows Vista
It takes about 5 minutes to boot from the Windows Vista Setup CD-ROM,
install the NTAccess Logon Prompt, reboot and access the System.

If you have any problems with NTAccess, I try to find a solution for free.
I can't say if NTAccess works for future version of Windows NT/2000/XP/Server 2003, but I
try to add support for any new version, Hot Fix or Service Pack if necessary.
If only minor changes are needed, upgrades to the current version of NTAccess
are free.
There is no immediate money-back guarantee. I will try to solve the problem
first.
NTAccess relies on Windows NT/2000/XP/Server 2003 boot disks or the bootable Windows XP or Windows Server 2003 Setup CD-ROM,
so if you want to be sure that NTAccess works for your system, please try out the demo
version first. If the demo version does not work, please
contact me because there is still a chance to find out
what's going wrong.

A demo version is available which allows you to try out if NTAccess works
for your system. The demo version does not change the administrator password,
it only displays the name of the administrator account. Sometimes even this can be
useful if the administrator account has been renamed. Please read the
License Agreement before you download NTAccess.

If you still don't believe that NTAccess works there is a special demo
version available on request. This demo version changes the password of
the built-in Guest account. Please not that the special demo requires
an enabled Guest account which is not the default. This is an intended
limitation of the special demo version.
